How to activate a credit card?

Wait for an SMS from The bank informing you that you need to set a PIN code for your card.

You can set a PIN code in two ways:

  • After registering at online.uralsib.ru or in The bank's mobile app, tap your card on the home screen, then select the “About the card” menu item, and then tap “Change PIN code”.

Interest-free (grace) period and debt repayment terms

How does the grace period work for the "Premium banking" Credit Card?

The interest-free period for the "Premium banking" Credit Card is provided for a term of 4 months, where:

The first three months are the period during which you spend funds using the provided credit limit. At the same time, at the end of each month, a minimum payment will be generated for you, which must be paid by the last business day of the following month.

The fourth month is the month when you need to repay the entire remaining amount in full.

The amount and due date of the payment are always available to you in the personal account of the mobile application or in the web version of Uralsib Online.

Example: On January 1, you used the "Premium banking" Credit Card for the first time and paid for a purchase in a store in the amount of RUB 150 000.

In February and March, you need to make the minimum payment, which will be calculated as 3% of the outstanding debt; the minimum monthly payment amount is RUB 300. In April, you need to repay the entire remaining amount in full.

At the same time, the presence of a minimum payment does not mean that the interest-free period does not apply; the amount will go toward restoring the credit limit, and these funds will again be available to you for use.

We also recommend reviewing the list of transactions to which the interest-free period does not apply. Summary: in order for the grace period to continue to apply, it is necessary to pay the minimum payments monthly and in the fourth month to pay the remaining part of the debt.

What is the interest-free (grace) period on a credit card?

The interest-free grace period or promotional financing period (from the English grace period) is the period during which the bank does not charge interest on card purchases. The grace period does not apply to debt arising from transactions such as cash withdrawals from a card or account, transfers, and quasi-cash transactions.

The interest-free period starts with the first non-cash debit transaction of the month, which is subject to the terms and conditions of the interest-free period, and its duration depends on the type of card:

for the Cashback Credit Card - up to 62 days

for the credit cards “120 Days to the Maximum” and “Premium banking” - up to 120 days.

  1. from card to card — this is the simplest and most cost-effective option, as you only need to know the recipient's card number, and no fee is charged for this type of transfer.
  2. from the credit card account to any other account, by entering the full recipient account details (recipient bank BIC, recipient account number, correspondent account, etc.). With this transfer method, a fee will be charged in accordance with the bank's tariffs & fees.

  • on the bank's website (only card-to-card transfers are available)
  • at the nearest bank branch (only transfers from the credit card account to another account are available)

How to repay credit card debt?

When there is no credit card debt, there is no need to deposit money into the account. If credit debt arises, you need to choose the payment option that is best for you.

There are several options:

1. Repay the debt to the bank in full with a single payment. This can be done both during the interest-free (grace) period and after it ends. In any case, with this method of debt repayment, interest charges will be minimal.

2. Repayment in arbitrary amounts, but higher than the minimum payment. With this method, it is important to remember that if you do not repay the full amount in full during the grace period, interest will be charged.

3. Repayment by the minimum payment. With this option, interest expenses will be the highest.

What is the order of credit card debt repayment?

Debt repayment for agreements concluded from October 18, 2021 is carried out in the following order:

- for payment of interest for the use of credit on the principal amount, including technical debt, if any;

- for payment of principal debt – first incurred through purchases, then cash withdrawals, transfers and quasi-cash transactions;

- for payment of late payment penalties, if any.

Example: Suppose on January 1, you withdrew funds via an ATM from a credit card in the amount of RUB 10,000, and on January 20 you paid for a purchase in a store for a total amount of RUB 5,000 

When funds are credited to the card, interest on the cash withdrawal will be debited first. From the remaining amount, the debt for the store purchase will be repaid. The debt for the cash withdrawal at the ATM will be repaid last.

Advice: There are transactions to which the interest-free credit period does not apply. If you want to minimize the costs of accrued interest, we recommend not delaying the repayment of debt for such transactions.

What happens if you make a payment after the due date?

Which transactions are not covered by the grace period for lending?

The grace period for lending does not apply to:  

  • cash withdrawals and cash withdrawal fees 
  • card transfers and transfer fees
  • cashless quasi-cash transactions and fees for them
  • purchase payment transactions according to the list
  • cashless transfers via remote banking services.

Accordingly, the grace period for lending applies to:  

  • payment for goods and services using the card or its details, except for the exclusion list.
  • payment of bank fees, except for cash withdrawal, quasi-cash transaction, and transfer fees.

How is the minimum payment on the Premium Credit Card calculated?

The minimum payment is calculated as 3% of the total amount of debt as of the end of the last business day of each month + accrued interest on transactions that are not covered by the grace period for lending and/or accrued interest on purchases if the conditions of the interest-free period were not met.

Can I withdraw money from the Premium Credit Card?

You can withdraw cash from the Premium Credit Card and make a card-to-card transfer without a fee. Please note that these transactions are not covered by the grace period.

At the same time, these transactions do not cancel the grace period; the bank will charge interest exclusively on fund withdrawal transactions, while no interest will be charged on transactions covered by the interest-free period.

We could answer this question briefly: you must never tell anyone your PIN code.

However, we would like to tell you in more detail about the security rules for using bank cards.

Bank Uralsib constantly stands guard and has been successfully ensuring the banking security of its clients for several decades. On the client's side, simple rules must also be observed, which will help protect your money:

1. There are card details that should not be shared with third parties. These include: the PIN code, CVV code (the three digits on the back of the card), and codes from messages from the bank. The loss of this data and it falling into the hands of fraudsters may lead to the loss of money.

2. When making purchases online, pay only on trusted websites and always check the website address in the address bar.

3. Do not give your card to third parties, including a sales assistant in a store or a waiter in a restaurant.

4. A bank card should be kept separately from the PIN code, and you should not write it down on the card itself.

5. Enter the PIN code in such a way that no one can see it (cover the ATM and POS terminal keypad with your hand).

6. In the event of the loss of your card, immediately call the bank at 8-800-250-57-57 to block your card in order to prevent unauthorized transactions.

7. Monitor your card spending through the "Notification Service" service.

How to close a credit card properly?

To close a credit card, it is not enough to simply block the plastic card. To do this, you need to visit the nearest bank branch and submit an application to close the credit agreement. After that, the credit limit will be reset to zero. At the same time, you will need to repay in full the amount owed together with interest, if it has been accrued.

The credit card account will be closed 40 days after you submit the application to terminate the credit agreement. After this period, you can request from the bank a certificate confirming that the loan has been closed.
