In what cases can the bank close a current account?

The bank is entitled to initiate the closure of a client's current account in the following situations:

  • Account inactivity. If there have been no transactions on the account for 6 months.
  • No funds. If no money has been credited to the account for 6 months and the account balance has been zero or negative.
  • Liquidation of a legal entity. Upon the official liquidation of a company, the account is closed automatically.

The account may also be closed automatically if the bank identifies signs of money laundering or involvement in suspicious transactions. In this case, transactions on the account will first be temporarily blocked. To unfreeze the account, the client will need to provide documents confirming the legality of the incoming funds. If legality cannot be confirmed, the bank decides to close the account.

In all cases except liquidation, the bank is required to notify the client of its decision. If there is a remaining balance in the account, the funds must be transferred to another bank or received in cash.
