What does the merchant acquiring fee depend on?

The fee amount depends on a number of factors. These include: the company's total turnover, the number of connected outlets, and the business area in which the company operates (Merchant Category Code (MCC)).

The fee includes:

  • interbank fee (IRF);
  • payment system usage fee;
  • processing services;
  • equipment maintenance;
  • related expenses.

The largest share is the interbank fee (IRF) — it is paid by the acquiring bank to the bank that issued the card. Its amount depends on:

  • card category — gold and platinum cards have a higher fee than standard cards;
  • type of business activity — different IRF rates apply to different industries;
  • payment method — magnetic stripe transactions cost more than contactless payments.
