What is acquiring?

Acquiring is a banking service that allows merchants to accept cashless payments from cards, smartphones, and other devices. When paying for a purchase, the funds are first received by the acquiring bank and then transferred to the seller's current account.

There are two main types of acquiring:

• Merchant acquiring — for accepting payments by bank cards through terminals installed at the checkout.
• Internet acquiring — for accepting online payments through the company's website.
